As a parent, you wait for those "lightbulb" moments—the moments when you see your child truly find themselves. For my youngest daughter, that moment was TEAM Academy.

I didn’t just watch her go to class; I watched her transform. I had a front-row seat as she and her classmates traded screens for wilderness, and separation for deep, soul-level community. In a world where our teens are navigating a terrifying mental health crisis, TEAM isn’t just an "outdoor program." It is a lifeline. It’s where they learn to lead and mentor, how to process deep emotions, be a part of something bigger and outside themselves, and how to actually connect in a disconnected world. Just look at all the bright, smiling faces in these photos! They look so ALIVE and PRESENT! What an incredible gift!

That is why my heart is heavy today. Without a public vote, a discussion, or a meeting with parents, the decision was made to cut this 35-year legacy from a two-year journey to just one. Our community asked for a seat at the table to find solutions, and we were declined. Not only do they want to cut the program to only 1 year (which deeply impacts the transformative nature of this program), but they want it to only be offered to Seniors when those students are already checking out and getting ready to leave high school altogether. This approach will surely kill the program in no time. This program isn’t about filling a students schedule, it’s about filling their lives, and that needs to start way before they are heading out into the real world. Let’s set them up for SUCCESS, not more of the same struggles they face every day.

Our kids deserve transparency. They deserve a voice. And they deserve a program that has been proven to change lives for generations. We cannot let this slip away in silence.
