Seller Letter - "Memories On Morningside"
I fell in love with 156 Morningside Drive the moment I saw the welcoming walkway and front porch. I imagined sitting there in the evenings enjoying the passerby’s and the new neighbors our family was sure to meet. After being on the losing end of house bidding several times already, I had an “it was all meant to be” moment and this was to be our home.
How our lives unfolded at 156 exceeded my expectations in a myriad of ways. Neighbors introduced themselves and welcomed us with open arms and some of our closest friendships were born. It became clear that Morningside is a neighborhood where everybody knows your name. Among the community are people in all stages of life: older folks who raised their children here and young families just beginning. Most important though, people who value community and caring for others are drawn here.
So many memories were created within this home. Both of my daughters were brought to this house after being born at Marin General Hospital and all of their milestones as well as daily musings have a memory which involved our home: meeting friends for first day of school photos, walking to school (elementary and high school), peeking over the back fence to a best friend asking to go for a swim, dance parties for teens and adults alike, birthday parties, and a Friday night pizza gathering which rotated houses between 5 families on the block.
Our annual block party, when the street is closed to cars, and people gather in the street right in front of this home, is a highlight of both of my daughter’s childhoods. Food, music, friends, new faces and a talent show run by the kids of the block became a touchstone in our year and a way to mark time as the older kids ushered in the growing youngest in the neighborhood.
Every Halloween my family hosted an open house style gathering and welcomed friends and neighbors inside for chili & cornbread as a nourishing stop on their trick-or-treating route with their kids. Another dear neighbor organized an annual caroling gathering. Whether a holiday or not, our street was a front porch neighborhood.
Inside these walls is a home with beautiful esthetic and functional flow. The kitchen, with the adjacent eating area, was the center of the action. Close to the back porch or front, culinary creations were enjoyed outside or in on a daily basis. The fireplace warmed us in winters and the indoor-outdoor flow delighted us the rest of the year. The “3rd bedroom” was a welcome addition and provided the opportunity for the girls to have separate bedrooms as they entered their teenaged years while having close proximity to the back bathroom and house.
This home is on the way to everywhere and was the meeting place for friends to gather before and after adventures in the community. Whether hiking in the trails around Fairfax on a rainy day, walking to town to watch the annual parade, or listening to live music in Fairfax, 156 Morningside has ideal proximity to it all.
The time has come to pass the heartbeat of this home to another person or family. The home will take care of you, in good times and in hard, it’s a place that will hold the memories to come.
